The Tretyakov Gallery has prepared a virtual exhibition “Crimean landscapes”. The project is timed to the 240th anniversary of Crimea, Taman and Kuban becoming part of the Russian Empire.
In 1783, Empress Catherine II signed a manifesto on the adoption of “the Crimean peninsula, Taman Island and all the Kuban side under the Russian Empire”. The reunification of the Crimea with Russia was the merit of an associate of the Empress – the Governor-General of Novorossiya, Prince Grigory Potemkin. Soon internal trade duties were abolished, which helped the development of the Crimean agriculture, industry and trade.
