The International Council of Russian Compatriots, which has special consultative status with the UN ECOSOC and associate status with the UN Department for Global Communications, and the International Association of Russian-speaking Lawyers strongly condemn the illegitimate actions of the Moldovan leadership, openly aimed at escalating the Transnistrian conflict.
In January 2024, Moldova, in violation of all previously reached agreements, unilaterally imposed new customs duties on goods imported and exported by economic entities of Transnistria. New evidence of Moldova’s economic aggression grossly violates the long-term economic mechanisms that existed between Moldova and Transnistria as a result of the peace negotiation process. By taking a course towards the economic strangulation of Transnistria, Moldova is trying to earn the approval of the collective West and make its “contribution” to the unprecedented Russophobic hysteria, which is being intensively fanned in the West.
Moldova’s hostile actions will not only lead to a deterioration in the economic situation of ordinary residents of Transnistria, but also provoke a sharp escalation of confrontation in the context of global and regional instability.
We regard Moldova’s actions as a direct undermining of the common efforts of the international community aimed at resuming a full-fledged dialogue between Moldova and the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
We demand that the Moldovan leadership immediately abolish illegally imposed customs duties for Transnistrian enterprises and block the export of Transnistrian enterprises.
We call on all participants in the Moldovan-Transnistria negotiation process and international organizations to pay close attention to the criminal and inhumane actions of the Moldovan leadership, which grossly violate human rights and freedoms, and take measures aimed at preventing economic pressure on the people of Transnistria.
