On December 1, the Russian House in Rome will remember the tragic events in Sicily: 115 years ago, in December 1908, a devastating earthquake occurred in Messina.
Hundreds of families have lost loved ones. The city itself suffered serious damage. Russian sailors who were nearby in the port of the Sicilian city of Augusta participated in the rescue operation of the surviving residents of Messina.
The Russian House in Rome will dedicate the project “115 years of the earthquake in Messina: Angels who came from the sea” to the events that once again testify to the historical ties between the peoples of Russia and Italy.
