On April 20, the XVII conference of the Coordinating Council of organizations of Russian compatriots living in Argentina was held at the Russian House in Buenos Aires. The participants of the meeting, who arrived from different parts of the country, summed up the work and discussed plans for various events, in particular dedicated to Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin and the 90th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Gagarin.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Argentina, Cultural Attache Tigran Dzhagaryan noted the role of the Russian diaspora in preserving Russian history, culture and spiritual values. “Despite the political situation in the world, and in Argentina in particular, our traditionally friendly countries continue to engage in dialogue at various levels on a wide range of issues on both the bilateral and international agenda”, he said.
The Head of the Russian House in Buenos Aires, Olga Muratova, in turn, stressed “the importance of consolidating the diaspora, preserving and popularizing the Russian language, culture, scientific achievements, and promoting an objective image of Russia in Argentina”. Russian Studies Association of Argentina noted the work of the Russian House in Buenos Aires, which handed over 500 units of educational, methodical, fiction and reference literature in Russian to 11 organizations of compatriots, on the basis of which Russian as a foreign language is taught.
