For fifteen years, a lonely pensioner, Nonna Golovina, dreamed of returning from Latin America to her homeland. Today her dream came true.
“It has happened! I flew home! I want to express my gratitude to everyone who participated in my fate. I was already desperate and lost all hope. It is an incredible happiness to return to our native land again. I dream of living out my life here!”
Nonna is from Siberia. Once friends suggested an adventurous project – to come to work as an au pair in Chile. She agreed without hesitation. After all, it is the dream of any geographer to study the world not by the globe, but in practice.
In fact, the conditions were unbearable. The pensioner had to lift weights, dig the ground and chop firewood. And all this is just for a roof over your head.
Nonna had a rare eye disease in which hard physical labor was strictly contraindicated. Constant supervision of doctors was required. But insurance for a foreigner in Chile is expensive. The woman began to experience dizziness and attacks of weakness more and more often. Despair and hopelessness were added to them. However, there was no one to turn to for help. Relatives and friends have been dead for a long time. The connection with the only daughter was interrupted many years ago.
Having felt complete physical exhaustion, the pensioner left her employers and began to wander around the country, taking on any part-time job: cleaning, walking dogs, looking after children. She lived where she had to. There was barely enough money for a piece of bread.
Nonna began to send letters to different addresses with a cry for help. One of them reached the Russian House in Santiago.
“In recent months, Nonna has become for me not just a compatriot in trouble, but a truly close person. We spent many hours talking and corresponding, using various contacts and connections in Moscow before we had the opportunity to return home,” said Nina Milovidova, Head of the Russian House in Santiago.
The most expensive thing – a ticket from Santiago to Moscow – was taken over by the Synodal Department for Charity of the Russian Orthodox Church. The parish assistance service of the Church of the Resurrection of the Living on the Assumption Vrazhka helped with housing in the capital and flying further – to Novosibirsk.
In a couple of days, Nonna will be in her native Novosibirsk, where she will start a new life. First of all, of course, she will take the treatment of health. The pension will be enough to rent an apartment, and she will live on private lessons in English and Spanish.
