On 17 January, the presentation of Drago Delich’s book «Serbian Russians» took place at the Russian House in Belgrade. The work describes one of the most important events in the history of the Russian and Serbian people of the 20th century: the arrival of Russian emigrants in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
The book, published by the publishing house «Klyuch», is intended for a wide readership. It is a kind of guide to the history of Russian emigration in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, an encyclopedia of Russian people, famous and ordinary citizens who left their mark on Serbian culture, state and public life, and their activities related to the restoration of Serbian monasteries and parishes, the creation of ballet and opera, the development of the University of Belgrade, scientific institutes, medical centres, the construction of many buildings, the development of urban plans, and the opening of enterprises important for the country’s economy. Some facts about the Russian contribution to Serbian life in the interwar period are widely known, while others are largely forgotten.
The book recalls those who started or continued their lives and careers in the new state, in the new homeland, and how Serbia was perceived by Russian emigrants. The publication of the book coincides with the centenary of the completion of the resettlement of the white emigration to the territory of the Kingdom of SCS, thus marking this important anniversary.
The presentation was addressed by the writer, lawyer Predrag Savich, professor of the Faculty of Philology, Dr Irina Antanasijevich, publisher and editor Milan Trpkovich and the author of the book Drago Delich.
