On March 21, on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the NATO aggression against Yugoslavia, a closed pre-premiere screening of the film by Serbian director Goran Radovanovich “The Forest King” took place at the Russian House in Belgrade.
The film “The Forest King” (srb. “Bauk”) is a complex, tragic picture about the period of bombing in Serbia in 1999. At the center of the story is a Belgrade family, or rather, a mother and son. The director very subtly conveys all the horror and fear of a bombed city, without playing on any political themes, describing the love of mother and son and the suffering that the war brings.
Filming began on March 24, 2022, on the 23rd anniversary of NATO’s aggression against Yugoslavia. According to the director, he had been carrying out the idea of the film for 5 years and considered it his duty to the Serbian people to make a film on the topic of bombing. The cinematographer of the film was the famous Russian cinematographer Vladislav Opeliants.
And this week it became known that Goran Radovanovich’s film “The Forest King” entered the main competition program of the 46th Moscow International Film Festival, which will be held in Moscow from April 19 to 26. The Moscow premiere of the film will take place on April 20 at 19:00 at the October cinema.
