"The growing popularity of Russian educational programs, including regional educational organizations among foreign citizens is an important indicator of demand for Russian humanitarian product, respect and interest of the citizens of the world to the rich Russian culture", - it was noted in the centre.

Linguistics and literary study is the most popular among foreign citizens. Medicine is less popular, economics and management —  in the third place, mathematics and mechanics — in the forth, psychological science and art studies complete the list.

In 2016 foreigners could use the new special electronic resource http://russia.study/ to apply for education in Russia. Thanks to this innovation the mechanism of selection became simpler and more transparent for all participants of the process. Currently, the number of applications in RUSSIA.STUDY on free and paid education exceeded 70 thousand.

Afterwards, the electronic form is planned to transform into an information system representing the entire spectrum of education opportunities in the Russian Federation for everyone.

In the next year a transition to a new form of preparedness assessment of foreign citizens for education in Russian educational organizations — qualifying tests, including the use of remote technologies, based on a country-specific.

An admission plan with the established quota for each of the 179 foreign countries is formed jointly by Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Rossotrudnichestvo. In 2016 this plan was traditionally formed with account of Russian international obligations in the sphere of education and foreign countries needs in national staff preparedness, and possibilities of Russian educational organizations.  Rossotrudnichestvo performs a coordinating function in the first stage of selection, within the selection of foreign citizens wishing to study in Russian educational organizations directly in foreign countries. By the results of work of selection committees Rossotrudnichestvo sends a list of the most deserving candidates to Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for the selection of such candidates directly by Russian universities.
